Laura Powers
In my role as a doula, I want to ensure you have the birth experience that you desire, no matter what that looks like. I want to help you understand what your body is going through during pregnancy, what it will go through during labor and birth, and how to advocate for yourself and your wishes. I will support you from the beginning of our relationship through the first months of your newborn journey and my goal is to ensure you feel informed, empowered, supported, and fierce as you embrace the Delicate Powers that you possess.
What is a doula and why do I want one?

A doula is someone who provides emotional support to mothers and partners during pregnancy, labor, birth, and postpartum. A doula does not have medical training, but works as part of the team to make sure your birth preferences are heard, respected, and advocated for. My goal is that you view your birth positively no matter what happens. A doula helps you determine your wishes, advocate for those wishes, ask questions, discuss options, and provides physical and emotional support during one of life's most delicate and powerful experiences.
Based on research evidence...
-
People who have continuous doula support during birth are 34% less likely to view their birth experience negatively
-
doula support reduces the rate of cesarean sections by 28%
-
The use of synthetic oxytocin to speed up labor decreases by 31% when a doula is present
-
Doula supported people are 9% less likely to request pain medication
-
Doula support reduces the rate of PPMD
-
Breastfeeding rates increase for mothers who have doula support
*An important note
At Delicate Powers, my philosophy is that every woman has the right to make informed choices about her pregnancy and birth journey. Cesarean birth, use of epidurals, and breastfeeding are all extremely personal choices and there is no wrong way to birth. My job is only to make sure you have as much information as possible about your options and to advocate for your wishes-no matter what they are.
